Origins of Sargent Construction Ltd:

A 3rd generation native to Victoria, the attack at Pearl Harbour brought Raymond Dennis Sargent from the Saskatchewan praries to the westcoast as a member of the Royal airforce. It was in Victoria where Ray met his wife Jean at an ice rink before having 3 boys -- Richard, John, and Don. Their boys all went on to have careers in construction -- Rick and Don in Victoria and John over in neighboring Vancouver. As for Ray, he went to medical school after the war and had a general practice for many years before going back to school to become a general surgeon. We continue to meet past patients of his and hear their stories of his tireless dedication and routine house calls.

Sargent Construction Ltd. was incorporated in 2004 and is the evolution of Mira Construction Ltd. and Tel-Bay Developments Ltd. This company continues the legacy of Rick and Don Sargent who are both well known and respected in the Victoria construction industry. In fact, it was the forward thinking of Rick Sargent who constructed the first rain-screen condominium before rain-screen systems were required by the BC Building Code. Our numerous industry partners allow us to adapt to large projects and small ones and we've always made a point of keeping our overhead low and passing those savings to our customers. Our reputation is one of our biggest strengths. We've always delivered on our commitments and always paid our bills.

About Owner/General Manager, Lyall Sargent:

From a very early age, Lyall's Grandmother joked that he'd end up wearing a hard hat due to her experience with her own three boys. Despite pushing Richard, John, and Donald into higher education and acheiving degrees in Architecture, Engineering, and Chemistry respectively -- all three of her boys enjoyed long careers in the construction industry. As for Lyall, despite earning a degree in Economics from the University of Victoria, his lifelong interest in construction steered him into it as well. As a second generation construction worker, through hands-on experiences on a large variety of jobsites, from small to very large -- from hotels to condos to houses to commercial to condos again -- he has learned the right way to build, estimate, and forge industry partnerships. From stripping parkades working for Willowleaf Holdings one summer, to installing the restaurant booths for 'The Lakes' restaurant at the Howard Johnson Hotel, and evolving into a Site Superintendent on the luxury 50 million dollar Swallows Landing complex, Lyall has started from the bottom and done almost everything inbetween. He brings many strengths to the industry including his transparency, organisation, and integrity. He has an insatiable curiousity for all components of construction and his knowledge in the many different components of construction allows him to plan ahead to avoid conflicts and know what the relevent questions to ask are. If there are multiple options or cheaper alternatives, he actively explores all those areas and gives clients the maximum amount of flexibility. Too many people get caught spending too much money in areas easily avoidable had the appropriate foresight been exercised. Please read about us in the Business Examiner, January 2017 issue.
